Saturday, August 8, 2015, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Navy Wells Pineland. Steve Woodmansee will lead this late afternoon walk in a county preserve, one of the largest tracts of pine rockland remaining outside of Everglades National Park. We’ll see summer wild flowers and hopefully the rare Bartram’s Hairstreak, the Florida Duskywing as well as other butterflies and birds. Bring close-focus binoculars if you have them for spotting butterflies.
Meet: 5 p.m. At the entrance to Navy Wells on SW 192 Ave., just south of “Robert Is Here” fruit stand. (Robert Is Here is at SW 344 Street and 192 Ave. on the way to Everglades National Park). This is about 30 minutes south from Cutler Ridge.
Bring/wear: Water, long pants.
Difficulty: Moderate (some rocky terrain; not long distances).
Afterward: Join the group at a local restaurant for dinner if you choose to. (Place the decided).
Thanks to Patty Phares for organizing this joint field trip.
