Thompson Park Field Trip

October 17, 2015 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Larry and Penny Thomson Park
12451 SW 184 St.

You are welcome to join the Dade Chapter Florida Native Plant Society for a joint field trip to Larry and Penny Thompson Park.

This park is part of the botanically rich Richmond Pineland Complex, and, thankfully, is safe from the planned development in other parts of the complex that has been in the news.  We (the Native Plant Society) visited here last December – all the better now to compare to the bountiful array of fall flowers and regrowth after unusually widespread burns due to arson fires in May and June.

This should be a great location to see Atalas, skippers and hairstreaks and other Pineland species.

Directions:  Take US 1 or the Turnpike extension to SW 184 Street, go west to 127 Ave., turn north (right). At the end of the entrance road, turn left, then turn at the first right.  Park near Shelter 4

Bring:  Water, sun protection, close-focus binoculars for butterfly spotting.

Difficulty:  Easy, paved and unsaved paths, but open and sunny.

Delayed or lost?  Try Patty’s cell, 305-878-5705
