Miami Blue Chapter February, 2018 Meeting

February 4, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

Our guest speaker will be our past President Dennis Olle.  While no longer our president, Dennis has stayed involved as Director of Conservation Programs for our Chapter.  He is also a NABA Director. His program will be “Coral Reef Commons:  Status and some proposed responses.”  So little of our native Pineland is left, only 2 percent in Dade County.  A proposed shopping mall will fragment this critical habitat.  Dennis has been involved in the coalition to stop this destruction.

The meeting will start at 1 pm, Sunday, February 4 at Castellow Hammock. Come early to see how this park has recovered from Irma.  Although not pristine, the hammock has been cleared to enable strolls through the hammock.  Three hummingbird species have been observed including the Buff-bellied hummingbird.  Many species of butterflies are coming back.

In addition, there will be a short presentation given by Susan Kolterman focusing on butterflies of the Florida Keys.  Susan is an expert Keys naturalist who can identify most birds, butterflies and plants.  This will be a special treat for us!

Please consider bringing a small snack for the group.  We will provide napkins and drinks.
