Andy Davis PhD

Our guest speaker in May is Andy Davis, whose presentation “Monarch butterflies in Florida – the good, the bad and the ugly (truths)“, will summarize the latest research findings around the monarch population status, including what is happening to the population in Florida, and, how anthropogenic activities are influencing the monarchs in Florida, both positively and negatively.

Bio: Andy is an Assistant Research Scientist in the Odum School of Ecology, The University of Georgia. He is an animal ecologist with interests in migrations, eco-physiology, and functional morphology, and for the last 25 years he has studied the famous monarch butterflies of North America. In particular, Andy’s research on monarchs has focused on how their wing color helps them fly, how parasites affect their development, and how their migration affects their population. He has also been heavily involved in research tracking the long-term changes in the North American population.
