Calderon Restoration Interim Report – Spring 2023

Attached please find a Spring Interim Report about the butterfly habitat restoration work in Miami-Dade County’s Calderon Pineland. We say interim, as we are conducting surveys of the flora and fauna later this month. We’ll send you a copy when it’s completed.

Miami-Dade County EEL staff and NABA Miami Blus Chapter members/volunteers report seeing many butterflies and other wildlife on the property. The native plants volunteers planted in November are FLOURISHING. How exciting to see this go from an abandoned farm/junk-filled parcel of land to a place where native plants and wildlife can thrive!

Another exciting facet of this project is NABA members and supporters met a Matching Challenge Grant from the Curtis and Edith Munson Foundation. We were able to match the grant with an online campaign in April. We’ll launch another campaign in May to help meet another match/grant.

This project is generously supported by the Curtis and Edith Munson Foundation, Florida Power and Light, the JES Avanti Foundation, the Miami Blue Chapter of NABA, the Association of Zoological Horticulture, and members of NABA.
