Cuauhtémoc Saenz-Romero
Our guest speaker on November 2nd is Cuauhtémoc Saenz-Romero, whose presentation will be “Ecological Restoration of Monarch Butterfly Overwintering Sites in the Context of Climate Change.”
Summary: He will discuss reforestation efforts involving the assisted migration of Abies religiosa (sacred fir) to higher altitudes in response to climate change within the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve in Mexico. He will also highlight the cultural significance of monarch butterflies returning to Mexico, symbolically linked to the Day of the Dead (November 1st and 2nd).
Bio: He earned his Ph.D. in Forestry and Plant Breeding and Plant Genetics at the University of Wisconsin. Currently, he is a full-time professor and researcher at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo (Mexico).
