SUMMARY:Shark Valley Count
DESCRIPTION:The Shark Valley count covers the north entrance to Everglades National Park (Shark Valley) and areas adjacent to Tamiami Trail. This count takes place annually in mid-summer\, when the area’s butterflies are abundant. Butterflies absent from urban and suburban Miami-Dade County are often present. Contact Linda Evans or Jaeson Clayborn to participate. \nWe will meet at the Shark Valley Visitors Center at 9 am.  We will count unusual species found here which include Southern Skipperlings\, Least Skippers and Palamedes Swallowtails to name a few.  This is a hot time of year\, so bring lots of fluids\, a hat\, sunscreen and comfortable walking shoes.  We find wonderful birds here also.  As this is part of Everglades National Park\, you will need a park pass for entrance. \nThe count will then proceed\, after covering Shark Valley\, heading east and covering US 41 along the north and sides of the road.  We usually finish around 1 pm. \nThe entrance to Shark Valley is about 25 minutes  from Krome Avenue driving west on US 41.

SUMMARY:Pinecrest/Loop Road Count
DESCRIPTION:The Pinecrest/Loop Road count surveys the Loop Road section of Big Cypress National Preserve. Counters will car-pool. This park-and-ride field trip alternates between short walks and air-conditioned drives to the next stop. Contact Linda Evans or Jaeson Clayborn to participate. \nWe will meet at the corner of US 41 and the eastern end of Loop Road at 9 am on Saturday\, July 27\, 2019. There is a grassy area next to an artesian well.  We will car pool from this point west on the beautiful Loop Road which travels through the Everglades.  We drive for a few miles\, get out of our air conditioned cars and count Everglades species\, then proceed to the next stop.  The trip lasts until 5 pm.  Bring bug spray\, plenty of water\, lunch\,  hat and comfortable walking shoes.
