SUMMARY:Miami Blue Chapter 2026 Quarterly Meeting Q4
DESCRIPTION:The Miami Blue Chapter of NABA will be holding their 4th Quarterly Meeting of 2026 on Thursday\, November 5th\, at 7:00 pm. (NOTE THE CHANGE IN DATE & TIME) \nOur Guest Speakers Jaeson Clayborn\, Adam Skowronski\, Liu Arbolaez and Jason Mendoza will present “Connecting Habitats: Insights from Radiotagged Butterflies in Miami.” \nBrief Description: Where do butterflies go once they leave your flower patch or home garden\, do they return? This presentation explores an ongoing student-driven research project at Miami Dade College Padrón Campus that uses radiotags to reveal the hidden movements of butterflies across Miami-Dade County. Attendees will discover how butterflies are chosen for tagging\, how lightweight radiotags are carefully attached\, and how location data are gathered and displayed through the BlūSeries Tag Portal. \nUsing real tracking data\, we will follow the movement of five butterfly species and explore what these observations suggest about their routes\, habitat preferences\, and potential behaviors in South Florida. Audience members will have the opportunity to interpret maps and tracking records\, offering their own ideas about what each butterfly may have been doing during its journey. \nIn addition\, the presentation will examine both the advantages and current challenges of radiotagging technology and discuss how these tools are helping researchers better understand butterfly ecology. Whether you are a gardener\, scientist\, educator\, or conservationists\, this presentation provides a deeper look into the movement of South Florida’s butterflies and the innovative technology being used to study them. \n  \nThe meeting will be a hybrid meeting\, meaning you can choose to attend in person or via Zoom. Doors for in person attendees will open at 6:30 pm while the live Zoom session will commence at 7:00 pm ET. Zoom attendees may log in earlier\, but please know you will not see anything until the live session commences at 7:00 pm. \nJOIN MEETING VIA ZOOM:\nIf attending by Zoom\, Pre-Registration will not be necessary\, however in order to participate you must of course use the link provided below and include BOTH your First and Last names.
