2026 Schaus’ Butterfly Survey & Counts

Join us on the annual Schaus’ Survey and Butterfly Counts. Separate groups will cover different areas of Key Largo, on different days, from Monday through Friday each week. The first survey will be on Wednesday, April 15th and run Monday-Friday through to Tuesday, June 30th.

We generally start at 9:00 am and finish around 11:30 am -12:00 pm. After registering, you can select what days you wish to participate from week to week.

For those interested in joining us in Key Largo for these annual Schaus’ Butterfly Counts, whether just for one day or more, contact Salena Alberti at Salena.Alberti@floridadep.gov. She will add you to the list, send you the required rules, routes and permits which are required.

Make sure to dress appropriately for the environment, bring mosquito spray, possibly netting, sunscreen, and water.
