Schaus’ Swallowtail Surveys – postponed

In wake of the current coronavirus situation, the Schaus’ swallowtail butterfly pre-season meeting scheduled for the evening of Thursday April 9th has been cancelled. During this rapidly evolving situation, it is yet to be determined when we will have the green-light to begin surveys for the upcoming season.

The Miami Blue Chapter will be once again assisting in the Schaus’ Swallowtail surveys in Key Largo, Florida as we have been doing since 2011.  Last year was incredible with amazing sightings.  It will be interesting to see if the numbers are as good this year.

Scott Tedford, Environmental Specialist for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection will once again be organizing the counts with a preseason meeting.  Details will be posted when they are available.

We usually preform surveys in April, May and June.  We will post contact information when all the details have been worked out.  If you haven’t joined us for these amazing walks in the hammocks of Key Largo, you are in for a treat.
