NABA, plus the Miami Blue Chapter, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, the IRC and Miami Dade (DERM-EEL) are joining forces on Saturday May 28th to begin removing Melinis (an invasive, exotic grass) from the Calderon Pineland, an EEL property from 8:00 am to noon. The Calderon Pineland is located at theoretical SW 190th St and SW 140th Ave, Goulds 33170, (accessed off (north) of SW 192nd St).
All volunteers are invited to participate, bring your family and neighbors. Everyone attending should be prepared for heat and humidity; bring gloves, garden shovel/trowel, drinks/snacks, and a good attitude.
This will be the beginning of a “proof-of-concept” for pine rockland restoration, which is a collaboration among NABA-MBC/DERM (EEL)/IRC/FTBG.
