Schaus’ Survey 2020
Here’s to another successful Schaus’ swallowtail butterfly monitoring season … albeit a wild one!
Though we were not able to extend the surveys out to everyone due to the pandemic, local park and Crocodile Lake National Wildlife Refuge staff and volunteers logged 230 party hours’ worth of surveys. Between mid-April and June, 382 Schaus’ swallowtail butterflies were seen, which yields a best ever 1.66 Schaus’ per party hour … another great year!

A huge thank you to all that made the surveys work this year, including Susan, Janice, Gayle, Dale, Jenny, Mary Ann, Bunny, and everyone else who was able to get out there in the hot buggy weather. Also huge thanks to Crocodile Lake NWR intern Jodi Kellis for entering all of the data, and to Trudy and Jeremy who were able to make time for their volunteers to get out there and survey.
